What is green home. As what Wikipedia says:

A Green home is a type of house designed to be environmentally friendly and sustainable, while also focusing on the efficient use of “energy, water, and building materials.”

When thinking about buying green home in Vancouver, I found some great tips for your next house for sale hunting.

First of all, the location. You should look for those Green neighbourhoods. Is that house for sale in a neighbourhood close to work, transit, shopping, community centres and other services. Obviously if it does, you will save a lot of car gas bill and produce less greenhouse gas emissions.

Secondly, look for those homes located in transit-oriented density (TOD). What TOD means is that new, compact, complete green neighbourhoods are being built with transit as their focus. Instead of owning a car, join a car share cooperative, take transit, cycle or walk.

Thirdly, Lower Cost Luxury. If it’s features such as a gym or pool you want, buy a strata unit with these amenities and share costs.

Fourthly, Score your location. Walkable neighbourhoods offer health, environmental, financial and community benefits. Enter your address or the address of a home you want to buy at This tool calculates a walkability score based on the home’s proximity to transit, grocery stores, schools and other amenities. The higher the score, the “greener” that home for sale is.
